Tweet Till Your Thumbs Fall Off
As we continue to analyze communities in our class I notice myself becoming more engaged in the Twitter community. I started to be more aware of who I follow and I also follow profiles that contain lots of content. As someone who did not fully reap the benefits of Twitter it was easy to see what I was missing out on when we started to analyze it in class. After reading the article by Gruzd I agreed with the fact that Twitter has the potential to be a community. It became more personal when I compared my old Twitter habits to my new ones. In the past I would only favorite and retweet things funny videos or tweets I could relate to. Now I catch myself presenting new ideas and responding to tweets. When you devote time into seeing these online forums as communities it will become clear why they can be effective and why they feel genuine for many users. Now when I tweet, favorite, retweet or reply I feel as if i am doing it with a purpose.

Nice post! I find myself liking twitter more and more. This is the first time that I've had a Twitter and at first, I was very overwhelmed but slowly I read interesting articles, followed more and more people, and now I like my Twitter feed. The only thing that I need to work on is checking it every day and start replying and commenting on other tweets. Maybe I'll be a Twitter expert bt the end of the semester!
nice work Zeke! i find very cool that this class has guided you into becoming a better part of the Twitter community. Your statements make it clear that you want to be effective and constructive on Twitter. After reading your blog it has got me thinking about how i use twitter and what it means to me to be on twitter.
I thought your blog post was very insightful and interesting, I was wondering if you think that most people are very passive on twitter and only like other peoples ideas or are putting themselves out there.
I think it is great how you have reflected on your use of Twitter and have made the effort to really use it beyond simply the assignment. I need to take some tips from this post to use and explore Twitter beyond the assignment too.
Really liked this post and totally relate to the adjustment to Twitter- I am definitely starting to like it a lot more than I was originally anticipating! I noticed that politicians are using it more than I had expected. I also really like how a lot of my favorite actors and musicians use Twitter as a way to participate in current events and share petitions- it's nice to actually know that these people who are famous are just normal people like you and I who have opinions and want the best for other people.
Nice post!
Zeke - I enjoyed reading about your new sense of purpose on Twitter. I never really got into Twitter, but like you mention, I think it is important to realize that for some people, Twitter can truly be a community. I made the mistake of following the New York Times and other news sources that post literally 100 times in an hour. It filled up my feed like crazy, which is why I never wanted to go on Twitter. I didn't get into it, but a lot of my friends love Twitter. I think this is because they have learned how to create their own sense of community. They have curated their followers based off their interests, which makes their news feed more interesting/interactive. I think rather than just posting tweets into space, if I went on Twitter with community in mind, I could truly create space for meaningful conversations between a group of like-minded people, where I would feel more of a desire to interact. Maybe I should reapproach Twitter?
